Recommendation for selenium and other nutrients are developed by the Food and Nutrition Board (FNB) at the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies (formerly known as National Academy of Sciences).
Following table lists the current #RDAs for selenium in micrograms. For infants from birth to 12 months, the FNB established an AI for selenium that is equivalent to the mean intake of selenium in healthy, breastfed infants.

The Institute of Medicine of the National Academies report also established tolerable upper intake level for selenium is
400 μg/day. These upper limits for adults were set to protect the most sensitive individuals of the general population.
There is a long history of traditional food use for garlic and at the recommended levels 50–200 mg of SelenoForce® per day, the corresponding intake of supplemental selenium will be 50- 200 µg daily.
Typical dietary selenium intakes in North America are 80–140 μg/day. A supplemented dose of 200 µg/day would cause the total daily selenium intake from food and supplements for an average adult to increase to a maximum of 280–350 μg/day.
This is a safe amount since it is below or equal to the Reference Dose (RfD) for selenium, which, for an adult of 70 kg, was set by the EPA at 350 μg/day. The upper tolerable limit of selenium is 400 μg/day.
